Βαλεριάνα - Valerian
Στην Ελλάδα είναι αυτοφυές, κυρίως στη βόρεια και ηπειρωτική, και προτιμά εδάφη υγρά, γόνιμα και ηλιόλουστα. Το όνομα "Βαλεριάνα" προήλθε από τη λατινική λέξη valere που σημαίνει "υγεία ή δύναμη" και αναφέρεται στην θεραπευτική χρήση του φυτού, αν και υποστηρίζεται ότι μπορεί να αναφέρεται και στη δυνατή του οσμή. Οι ανθισμένες κορυφές συλλέγονται το καλοκαίρι, ενώ η ρίζα συλλέγεται το φθινόπωρο από Σεπτέμβριο μέχρι Οκτώβριο. Η βαλεριάνα λέγεται ότι έχει ιδιότητες ως υπνωτικού, αγχολυτικού και κατευναστικού.
Valerian
